Makerere university students went on strike protesting the university’s policy of hiking graduation fees from90, 000 shillings to 220, 000 shillings.
Despite the morning down pour, students gathered at the main building demanding for an explanation from Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere university.
However, the Vice chancellor did not meet the students as urgently as they demanded. But according to a statement from the office of the Vice Chancellor, the students were urged to keep calm as their grievances were being handled.
“The University Chancellor will consult the University Council and report back to the student’s community by the end of Tuesday (tomorrow),” read part of the statement dated October, 20 and signed by Prof. Ssentamu.
