64 Kyambogo Staff Miss out on Research Grants Over Plagiarism

Kyambogo University Council approved Shs1.7 billion and a Research and Grants Adhoc Committee was established to promote research, innovation and knowledge generation.

The committee requested for proposals from all interested staff members in the field of technology, education, sciences (including chemistry, mathematics, statistics, nature, and environment, physical, biological), Arts and Humanities (Including sexual Violence at Kyambogo University), Agriculture and other vocational fields.

Of the 83 proposals received, only 19 were found to be authentic. All the other 64 were duplicates of other people’s research proposals.

Deputy Vice Chancellor in-charge of Academic Affairs Prof. Maria Musoke expressed the need to develop an anti-plagiarism software, reference management software and data analysis software to improve on the quality of work produced.

One of the grant beneficiaries, Dr Hannington Twinomuhwezi will receive Shs39 million to conduct a polychemical analysis of antimalarial drugs made from Uganda.
