4 New Nursing Courses Approved at IUIU Females’ Campus Nursing School by National Council for Higher Education

Four new Nursing courses at Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Females’ campus Nursing school have been approved by Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

IUIU academic registrar, Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar made the announcement.

The newly accredited courses are:

  1. Diploma in Nursing (Direct)
  2. Diploma in Nursing (extension)
  3. Diploma in Midwifery (Direct)
  4. Diploma in Midwifery (Extension).

This brings the total number of courses offered at the nursing school to 6. The initial courses that the nursing school started with include:

  1. Certificate in General Nursing
  2. Certificate in midwifery

Dr. Madina Nabukeera, the Female’s Campus Director says the new development has opened more opportunity for the many girls who had missed out a chance to enroll for health science courses especially in a distinctive environment that has good facilities and adequate human resource.

“Our Nursing programmes are unique in a way that they are community based. our students shall be dealing with the local community especially in primary health care so that they can be key in solving the challenging common health issues”, Dr Madina Nabukeera noted.

ABOUT IUIU

The Islamic University in Uganda was opened in the year 1988 by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) under a bilateral agreement between the Government of Uganda (GOU) and the OIC.

In 1990, the Parliament of Uganda enacted a law, The Islamic University in Uganda Act (cap 131, Laws of Uganda), formally establishing the University in Uganda.

The University operates under the framework of this Act. The University opened on 10th February 1988 with 80 students and two degree programmes. Currently, it offers 72 programmes in 7 Faculties and has a student population of 8,638 coming from 21 different countries.

The University has so far graduated 25,000 students from various disciplines. The University has a centre for Postgraduate Studies and four campuses spread across the Uganda. The main campus is located in Mbale, Eastern Uganda.

Other campuses are; Kampala Campus, located at Kibuli Hill, East of Kampala Capital City, The Females’ campus Kabojja, West of Kampala Capital City and Arua campus in West Nile Region, Northern Uganda..

The University employs over 600 fulltime members of staff from 8 countries, and about 300 on part time basis. ”

 

Philimon Badagawa

Philimon Badagawa is a multimedia journalist with skills in news gathering, packaging, editing and online publishing. He has knowledge in data visualization, can design and manage websites. He previously worked as a journalist with Observer media and authored several articles and stories. He does research, video & audio recording, editing and production for online publication. He Participated in The New Dawn photography campaign aimed at rebranding Northern Uganda-USAID/NUTI Project (2010). Philimon is in love with photography, writing, reading, sharing new ideas and interacting with reasonable people for skills development.
