37% of Ugandan students are victims of Campus Mental Health

Recent research on university campus mental health suggests that 37% of university students in Uganda experience psychosocial problems in terms of traumatic experiences, emotional problems, antisocial behavior and academic problems.

On further analysis, 34.8% of the said students experienced depression and anxiety (psychopathology).

A full study presentation can be accessed on this link “Psychosocial problems and development of psychopathology among Ugandan university students”.

Mental health compromised status manifested as vulnerability to psychosocial problems is also taking its toll in high school circles with reported rising student suicides.

This calls for a need to address this mental health challenge facing our students either on campuses or in high schools.

We need to initiate meaningful debate on the issue based on informed researched results. The public, the student body, policy makers and all stakeholders in education, health, institutions of learning ought to start now and here to address this concern.

With this research finding, there is a better reason for university students to seek for online psychiatrist.
