24 Makerere University Students Receive China Embassy scholarships

The Chinese Embassy in Uganda has awarded scholarships to 24 Makerere University students to pursue different programmes at the university.

This is in a bid to strengthen Uganda-China relationship.

The Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship was launched five years ago to help brilliant yet economically disadvantaged students access quality tertiary education.

Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe received the scholarship from H.E Zhang Lichang (Chinese Ambassador to Uganda) at an award ceremony of the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship held on Tuesday July 26th, 2022 at Makerere’s senate building.

Prof. Nawangwe urged the beneficiaries to work hard and always think of developing their country.

According to Zhang, close to 100 students have benefited from the scholarship in the past five years.

“For five consecutive years, nearly 100 students have received financial support to fulfill their dreams of life through the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship,” Zhang said.

He further noted that china has provided over 5,000 training opportunities and government scholarships to Ugandans.

Wycliff Tulyahabwe, one of the beneficiaries thanked China for its continuous educational support to financially disadvantaged students.

The scholarship implementation will be done by Makerere University gender mainstreaming directorate.
