20 Universities confirm participation in the 17th AUUS 2017 Inter University Games

Twenty universities have so far confirmed participation in the 17th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) 2017 Inter University Games.

The games will be hosted by Ndejje University from 16th – 21st, December 2017 at the University’s Main Campus in Luwero District.

Bugema University marks the latest entry with a sports contingent of 31 men and five women with soccer men making the biggest number of 16 players followed by basketball men 12,  athletics 5 women, 2 men and 1 darts  player.

The confirmation is in regard to the number of the athletes, officials and sports disciplines each university will field.

The AUUS member universities were issued June 30, 2017 deadline for submission of the preliminary entry and November 15, 2017 for entry by name and number  to allow ample time to the host university to adequately plan for the Games.

Kyambogo University leads the latest list of having entered the biggest sports contingent of 276 athletes and officials followed by Busitema University with 201, Kampala University 197, Kampala International University 193, Makerere University Business School 191, Nkumba University 175, MUST 123, Gulu University 97, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) 66, St. Lawrence 65, International University of East Africa (IUEA) 59 and Kabale University 33.

Preparations are underway at Ndeje University for the 17th AUUS Inter-University Games 2017

Eighteen (18) sports disciplines are scheduled for the games but so far all the early entrants have indicated participation in soccer, the Games centre piece according to the final entries.

The disciplines to be competed for include athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, darts, karate, netball, rugby, handball, swimming, taekwondo,  volleyball, beach volleyball, woodball, table tennis and tennis while skating will be on games schedule for exhibition purpose.
