About Project:
In order to respond to the education needs of the Congolese refugees and the hosting population in these camps located in the districts of Kikuube and Kyegegwa (hosting respectively 116,915 and 118,876 refugees so a total of 235,791 refugees), HI will start participating in a consortium project targeting increased access to education for children with disabilities. The project name is INCLUDE and it is funded by ECHO. The project will be implemented in close collaboration with SCI, NRC, WCH and FCA. Implementation will start in mid-March 2020 and continue till the end of 2020. The project will support mainstream education actors to improve their capacity to create inclusive education environments for children with disabilities within their Education Response in line with the Education Response Plan.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Assessment
- Conduct standardized psychological/psychosocial assessments and design treatment plan for the learners with disability and where necessary work with caregivers.
Offer secure and appropriate psychosocial / psychological support
- Provide appropriate psychological/psychosocial sessions to learners with disabilities, including their caregivers, through family, groups and individual-based approaches in coordination with relevant services based on the specific situation of the child.
- Provide group sessions using the Tree of life methodology for learners with disabilities according to the action plan defined.
- Detect any evolution of the cases and modify the action plan accordingly or refer to a relevant colleague, superior or stakeholders;
- When necessary, accept an internal referral from within the rehabilitation or inclusion team on mental health cases identified in the field.
- Confirmation of mental health needs of beneficiaries and refer through the referral network for further intervention especially psychiatric cases.
- Prepares referral documentation and send beneficiaries to appropriate facilities within the referral network within Settlement.
- Conduct awareness raising sessions focusing on MHPSS related topic for schools and community.
Refer beneficiary to other services when needed.
- Identify needs for referrals to other relevant stakeholders and monitor referrals conducted in relationship with, the program manager and the relevant Technical Advisors (MHPSS, Rehabilitation, P&O, and IE);
- Refer persons to appropriate services through adequate referral system in place.
- Recognize emergency or situations that need immediate medical care or protection measure and react in consequence making efforts to ensure that beneficiary gets the appropriate services.
Organization of daily, weekly and monthly activities according to the organization calendar of work
- Develop weekly field activity reports
- Implement field activities in collaboration with the Physiotherapist and CBV following the project service/case flow
Respect for HI identity, rules, and policies
- Participate in organization induction in coordination with the Human Resources Manager and Program Manager.
- To show professional ethics, respect and promote Humanity & Inclusion mandate and humanitarian principles at all times
- To respect the Humanity & Inclusion protection of children policy, the protection of beneficiaries from sexual exploitation and abuse policy, the anti-fraud bribery and corruption policy and report to your line manager any non-respect of HI’s policies amongst the teams or partners.
- To report any incident or act that causes any harm to beneficiary or to others
- To contribute to the definition and/or update of security framework at field level
- To observe at all times strict commitment to Humanity & Inclusion Security & Safety regulations as per procedures in place at mission level
- To support information internal dissemination to relevant focal persons at mission level aiming at reinforcing security and safety of Handicap International staff and assets
- To participate in security meetings upon the line manager request and report relevant information to the appropriate persons
Other Responsibilities: Any other tasks deemed necessary by the line manager
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Handicap International Psychologist job placement must hold a Master Degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
- Professional experience in the psychological and psychosocial accompaniment of vulnerable persons and refugees
- Professional experience within an NGO, preferably in the field of vulnerability and disability and Community-Based approach
Competencies
- Knowledge of Disability Inclusion and MHPSS Service Delivery.
- Knowledge of the MHPSS and Disability Sectors in Uganda
- Strong comprehension of the Psychological issues of people with disabilities.
- Proven project activity implementation skills in collaboration with stakeholders
Personal Qualities:
- Ability to work under high pressure;
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
- Strong communication and networking skills
- Strong interest in the fields related to HI mandate
- Strong team player and ability to work independently
