Self Help Africa (SHA) is an International NonGovernmental Organization implementing rural development, sustainable food and livelihoods security programmes in nine countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. SHA’s vision is an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa with a mission to support sustainable livelihoods for Uganda’s smallholder farmers. SHA has been working in Uganda for close to 20 years.
Self Help Africa in partnership with Golden Bees Limited, Swienty Commodities ApS and Kahl GmbH & Co.KG (Kahlwax Limited) and with financial support from the Danida Market Development Partnerships (DMDP) will implement the Market-Oriented Rural Enterprise for Honey (MORE-HONEY) project in Uganda. The MORE-HONEY project will promote the development of an equitable honey value chain through working with 2,000 farmers in the four districts of Kitgum and Lamwo in the East Acholi region and Amudat and Nakapiripirit in the Southern Karamoja sub region. The project will contribute to market development and promote economic growth and employment Self Help Africa Uganda urgently seeks to recruit suitable candidates to fill the following positions in the MORE-HONEY project.
TWO (2) MARKET DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS (Based in Amudat & Kitgum Districts)
Under the overall supervision of the Market Development Manager (MDM), the Market Development Officers (MDOs) are responsible for ensuring the direct planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of DMDP Project activities with beneficiaries and other stakeholders. This includes: project participants identification (including refugees), setting of aggregation hubs, facilitating market linkages; helping farmers attract decent prices for their produce through value-addition; training and mentorship of honey enterprises to respond to new and expanding market opportunities; supervision of Community Based Trainers; and, coordinating activities with different stakeholders (e.g. Community Based Organisations, private sectors actors, local authorities etc). .
Key areas of responsibilities include:
• Facilitate activity planning and implementation of plans with beneficiaries
• Liaison and linkage with key private sector actors and processors/off takers, government officials, local businesses, CBOs and other service providers within the project area;
• Supporting institutional and business development for smallholder farmers and/or farmer groups;
• Mainstreaming Gender and Nutrition in project activities
• Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)
