12 universities will again be competing for honours when the 2015 season of the University Football League Uganda kicks of on Thursday 26th March.
This was revealed at the launch of the new season which is the 4th edition of the University Football League on Friday 20th at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
Speaking at the launch, Red Rhino Sponsorships Manager, Akwech Samuel said that the number of teams had been maintained at 12 this season to enable them (organisers) consolidate the achievements and tackle the challenges.
“It is easy to forget that the Nile Special University Football League was launched just 2 and 1/2 years ago in September 2012. Since that time the league has registered several achievements the biggest one being attracting over 10,000 fans to Namboole Stadium to watch a domestic football competition. This was a huge achievement and shows that Ugandans are still passionate about local sports,” Akwech said
Also at the launch was the President of the Association of Uganda University Sports, Peninah Kabenge who urged students to be disciplined as they support their teams.
“Thanks to our sponsors, especially Nile Special and Pepsi, football talents in our universities have been able to display and develop their skills. We have seen several of our players join Big League and Super League teams and even the Uganda Cranes. These achievements are threatened by student indiscipline and we urge fans to support their teams passionately but responsibly,” Peninah said.
