HealthRight International is a global health organization that empowers marginalized communities to live healthy lives, with a particular focus on four marginalized populations including women and children, migrant populations, and at-risk adolescents without any discrimination on gender, race, etc. Employing a human rights-based approach, HealthRight works closely with community-based partners to build local capacity and create sustainable programs that have a lasting impact. HealthRight leverages global resources to address local health challenges to create sustainable solutions. Since its founding in 1990 by the late Dr. Jonathan Mann, HealthRight has worked in over 30 countries, with current projects in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the United States.
HealthRight International is collaborating with War Child Holland on research as part of the PlayMatters consortium. PlayMatters – Sparking Lifelong Learning through Play is a 5-year project (1st September 2020 -31st March 2026) aims to improve holistic learning and well-being outcomes for 350,000 pre-primary and primary school going children ages 3-12+ in refugee and host communities in Uganda. The PlayMatters initiative is implemented through a collaborative consortium led by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and partners Plan International, War Child Holland (WCH), Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), and the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) and is funded by LEGO Foundation. WCH is leading on PlayMatters research agenda in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Research Assistant’s main responsibility is to conduct high quality interviews based on a survey for children and for parents. The Research Assistant will have to conduct multiple activities: to attain consent from all research participants and seek assent from children after getting permission from their caregivers to be able to collect quality data from the participants with accuracy, empathy, and always observing confidentiality. Data will be collected with an electronic tablet using the Commcare application. The Research Assistant will make sure that collected data will be properly stored (by the research coordinator). The Research Assistant will comply with research ethics and will follow the research project’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will be properly trained and explained during preparation of the work.
