Nkumba University to launch Radio and Television stations

Nkumba University department of Journalism is set to launch a Radio and Television station at the university main campus in Entebbe. The Journalism department has been testing the radio signals in the month of February 2015.

The process of acquiring an operating license from  Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) is underway.

The Head of journalism department at Nkumba University, Francis Bogere says that with the launch of Television and Radio stations at campus, students are free to do industrial training within the university.

He says the university has been collaborating with different media houses in Uganda to offer internship placements to their students since they did not have one.

“We can now train our students with relevant practical skills needed in today’s competitive job market”, Francis says. Adding that students are trained in several fields; journalism students can work for print, electronic and new media.

The television equipment for the TV station at Nkumba University was a donation from  Sir Gordon Wavamunno, the proprietor of Spear motors and WBS Television.  Wavamunno who doubles as Chancellor, Nkumba University donated the equipment in 2014.
