Makerere university Vice Chancellor clarifies on alleged alteration of marks and awarding of fake degrees

Makerere university Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu has clearly come out and clarified that the ongoing allegations in the media about awarding fake degrees and alteration of marks as being unfounded.

The vice chancellor says Makerere University has not awarded any fake degrees or graduated any undeserving candidate and has not recalled any degree.

“The management of the university has not involved in any degree scandal and alteration of marks because several meetings were held with principals and registrars of colleges in months of November and December 2014 to verify only eligible students that qualified to be awarded various degrees”, says Ddumba.

Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu adds on that students who were suspected to have allegedly altered marks did not graduate at the 65th graduation ceremony held in January 2015.

He explains that Makerere University only issues transcripts to students who make it to the graduation list and this is upon verification.

He however assured the public that if there are loopholes in regard to alteration of records, they will be handled to their correctness by establishing a committee to investigate the malpractice and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance to the laws that govern the university and country at large will be imparted on them.
