The administration of Makerere University has finally responded to the students’ cries that led to a two days strike over 100% tuition payment policy with pleasing news.

The policy that required students to clear 100% of the tuition by the end of the 6th week from the start of the semester has now been reviewed. It has been pushed to the 12th week of the semester.

This means Makerere university students must have cleared 100% (all the fees dues) two weeks to the start of Examinations.

The full statement released by Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dumba Sentamu on Sunday 15th March 2015 reads as follows;

“Management has received an appeal by students to review the council policy on 100% fees payment by the sixth week of the semester.

Makerere university students can now smile after the review of the tuition policy.

Following consultations with the Chairperson of Council and other stakeholders, this is to inform all students that the policy on fees payment for semester one of 2014/15 will apply for the second semester 2014/15 (Status quo remains)

As per the policy, every student must pay 100% fees by the 12th week of the semester. Only students who will have paid the 100% fees will be allowed to sit for examinations.

Students are urged to pay fees as soon as possible to avoid inconveniences.

Management wishes to thank all stakeholders for their efforts to resolve this matter for the good of our university.”……..
